SOUTHWEST STYLE

This design was inspired by the homeowner's travels to Mexico each winter. The south-facing site lends itself to a southwest-style garden in colors inspired by Mexican pottery. The site was covered in a thick layer of gravel by the previous owner, so I decided to go with the flow and plant heat-loving, desert-type plants here rather than remove the gravel and bring in topsoil. Plants include Mexican blanket flower, hummingbird mint, lavender, Russian sage, tickseed coreopsis and artemisia. Large trough planters are filled with flowering annuals and herbs.
